This 5-day journey through Assam and Meghalaya offers a perfect experience of Northeast India’s natural beauty, waterfalls and peaceful hill towns. The tour begins from Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India, and soon continues towards the charming hill station of Shillong, often called the “Scotland of the East.” Surrounded by rolling hills, lakes and pleasant weather, Shillong offers a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere.
During the journey to Shillong, travelers will visit the beautiful Umiam Lake, a large scenic lake surrounded by green hills. The calm waters and stunning landscape make it a perfect place for photography and relaxation.
The tour then continues to Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on earth and famous for its breathtaking waterfalls, limestone caves and dramatic landscapes. Visitors will explore attractions such as Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave and Seven Sisters Falls.
Another highlight of the tour is Dawki, known for the crystal-clear Umngot River where boats appear to float on transparent water. Travelers will also visit Mawlynnong, known as the cleanest village in Asia, famous for its cleanliness and bamboo viewpoints.
The journey concludes with a return to Guwahati where travelers can visit the famous Kamakhya Temple before departing with unforgettable memories of Meghalaya’s natural beauty.

Day 1
Day 1 – Guwahati to Shillong: Enter the Scotland of the East
Your North East journey begins from Guwahati, the largest city of Assam and the gateway to the beautiful hills of Meghalaya. After arrival, start your scenic drive towards Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya. The road slowly climbs into the lush green Khasi Hills and the weather becomes pleasantly cool.
On the way, stop at the beautiful Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake. Surrounded by rolling hills and pine forests, this peaceful lake offers stunning views and is a perfect spot for photography and relaxation.
After reaching Shillong, check into the hotel and take some time to relax. In the evening, explore Police Bazaar, the most lively area in the city. The market is full of local shops, cafés, and street food stalls.
Enjoy the pleasant hill station weather and the relaxed atmosphere before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 3
Day 3 – Shillong to Cherrapunji: Land of Waterfalls
After breakfast, check out and drive towards Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra. This place is famous for its dramatic landscapes, deep valleys, and some of the tallest waterfalls in India.
Your first major stop is Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India. The sight of water falling from a great height into a turquoise pool below is absolutely breathtaking.
Later explore the limestone caves at Mawsmai Cave. Walking through the natural cave passages is a unique adventure and gives travelers a glimpse into Meghalaya’s underground geology.
You may also see the beautiful Seven Sisters Falls if the weather is clear.
By evening check into your hotel in Cherrapunji and enjoy the cool misty weather of the hills. Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

Day 5
Day 5 – Guwahati Sightseeing & Departure
After breakfast, explore the spiritual side of Guwahati with a visit to the famous Kamakhya Temple, one of the most important Shakti Peeth temples in India. Located on Nilachal Hill, the temple offers beautiful views of the Brahmaputra River flowing through the city.
Later you may visit Umananda Temple, located on a small island in the Brahmaputra River. A short ferry ride takes visitors to this peaceful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Depending on your departure time, you can explore local markets for Assamese handicrafts, silk products, and tea.
Your memorable journey through the beautiful hills, waterfalls, and rivers of Assam and Meghalaya concludes with departure from Guwahati.

Day 2
Day 2 – Shillong Sightseeing: Waterfalls and Viewpoints
After breakfast, begin exploring the beautiful attractions of Shillong. Start with a visit to the famous Elephant Falls, a stunning multi-tier waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. The sound of cascading water and the misty atmosphere create a refreshing experience.
Next, drive up to Shillong Peak, the highest viewpoint in the city. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of Shillong town and the surrounding hills.
Later visit Ward's Lake, a charming lake located in the heart of the city. Travelers can take a peaceful walk around the lake or enjoy boating.
In the evening, return to Police Bazaar to explore the local markets again. You can try regional dishes and shop for handicrafts or souvenirs.
Return to the hotel later for dinner and overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 4
Day 4 – Dawki & Mawlynnong Excursion: Crystal Clear River
After breakfast, start an excursion to Dawki, a small border town famous for the incredibly clear Umngot River. The water here is so transparent that boats appear to float in the air. Enjoy a peaceful boat ride while admiring the surrounding hills and forests.
Later proceed to Mawlynnong, often called the cleanest village in Asia. The village is known for its neat pathways, bamboo houses, and strong community efforts to maintain cleanliness.
You can also climb the bamboo skywalk viewpoint which offers beautiful views of the Bangladesh plains in the distance.
After sightseeing, begin the return journey to Guwahati. On arrival check into the hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Guwahati.
