Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 – 10 May | Arrival at Bagdogra – Transfer to Phuentsholing

Upon arrival at Bagdogra Airport, you will be warmly received and begin your scenic journey towards Phuentsholing, the gateway to Bhutan. The drive takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours and offers a pleasant introduction to the Eastern Himalayan landscape. As you leave the plains behind, you will pass through lush green tea gardens, small towns, and winding roads that gradually lead you closer to the Bhutan border.

Phuentsholing is a unique town that lies on the Indo-Bhutan border and serves as the entry point into Bhutan. After completing the border formalities, you will check in to your hotel. The contrast between India and Bhutan is immediately noticeable, with Bhutan offering a cleaner, quieter, and more organized environment.

In the evening, you can explore the local market area, which is a blend of Indian and Bhutanese cultures. It is a great place to take a short walk, enjoy local food, or simply relax after your journey. This day is mainly for travel and relaxation, allowing you to prepare for the upcoming Himalayan experience.

Day 2 – Phuentsholing to Thimphu

After breakfast, you will complete the necessary permit formalities and begin your drive towards Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The journey takes around 6 to 7 hours and is one of the most scenic drives of the trip. The road winds through mountains, dense forests, and waterfalls, offering refreshing views at every turn.

As you ascend higher into the mountains, you will notice a change in climate and landscape. The cool breeze, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings make the journey truly enjoyable. Along the way, you may stop at viewpoints to admire the beauty of the valleys and rivers flowing below.

Upon arrival in Thimphu, you will check in to your hotel and relax. Thimphu is a unique capital city that blends tradition with modern development. Interestingly, it is one of the few capitals in the world without traffic signals, where traffic is managed manually.

In the evening, you can take a leisurely walk around the city, explore local cafes, or visit nearby markets. This allows you to get a feel of Bhutanese culture and lifestyle.

Day 3 – Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring Thimphu’s cultural and historical attractions. The first visit is to the Buddha Dordenma statue, a massive golden Buddha overlooking the valley, offering panoramic views and a peaceful atmosphere.

Next, you will visit the Memorial Chorten, an important religious site where locals gather for daily prayers. The spiritual energy and serene surroundings provide a glimpse into Bhutan’s deeply rooted Buddhist culture.

The tour continues to Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress that houses the government offices and the throne room of the King. Its impressive architecture and scenic location make it a must-visit.

Day 4 – Thimphu to Punakha

After breakfast, you will drive to Punakha, a beautiful valley known for its natural beauty and historical significance. The journey takes around 3 to 4 hours and includes a stop at the famous Dochula Pass.

Dochula Pass is one of the most scenic viewpoints in Bhutan, offering stunning views of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks on a clear day. The pass is adorned with 108 chortens (stupas), making it a peaceful and photogenic spot.

Continuing the journey, you will descend into the warm and fertile Punakha Valley. Upon arrival, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and significant fortresses in Bhutan. Located at the confluence of two rivers, it is an architectural masterpiece and an important religious center.

You will also visit the Suspension Bridge, one of the longest in Bhutan, offering thrilling views of the river and surrounding landscape.

Day 5 – Punakha to Paro

Upon arrival in Paro, you will check in to your hotel and relax. Paro is a charming town surrounded by mountains and known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

This day is relatively relaxed, allowing you to prepare for the next day’s highlight activity.

Day 6 – Paro (Tiger’s Nest Monastery Trek)

After an early breakfast, you will proceed for the trek to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Monastery), one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. The monastery is located on a cliff at an altitude of about 3,120 meters and offers breathtaking views.

The trek takes around 4 to 5 hours (round trip) and passes through pine forests, prayer flags, and scenic viewpoints. Though moderately challenging, the experience is extremely rewarding.

Upon reaching the monastery, you will be mesmerized by its stunning location and spiritual significance. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche meditated here, making it one of the holiest sites in Bhutan.

After the trek, you will return to the hotel and relax. The rest of the day is free for leisure.

This day is the highlight of the Bhutan journey, combining adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty.

Day 7 – Paro to Phuentsholing

After breakfast, you will begin your return journey to Phuentsholing. The drive takes around 6 to 7 hours and retraces the scenic mountain route.

Along the way, you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, and rivers that accompany the journey. It is a good opportunity to reflect on your memorable time in Bhutan.

Upon arrival in Phuentsholing, you will check in to your hotel and relax. You can also visit the local market for last-minute shopping or simply enjoy a peaceful evening.

Day 8 – Phuentsholing to Gangtok

After breakfast, you will re-enter India and proceed towards Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The drive takes approximately 6 to 7 hours.

The journey offers scenic views of hills, rivers, and small towns. As you approach Gangtok, the cool climate and mountain views create a refreshing atmosphere.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax. In the evening, you can visit MG Road, the main street of Gangtok, known for its vibrant atmosphere, shops, and cafes.

Day 9 – Tsomgo Lake & Nathula Pass

After an early breakfast, you will proceed for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake, located at an altitude of 12,400 feet. The lake is surrounded by mountains and remains frozen during winter months.

You will also visit Baba Mandir, a revered shrine dedicated to an Indian soldier. If permits are available, you will continue to Nathula Pass, an important Indo-China border point.

The entire journey offers breathtaking views of snow-covered landscapes and winding mountain roads.

After sightseeing, return to Gangtok and relax.

Day 10 – Gangtok Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, you will explore the local attractions of Gangtok. The day includes visits to Rumtek Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in Sikkim.

You will also visit Banjhakri Falls, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by landscaped gardens, and Tashi View Point, offering panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range.

The Flower Exhibition Centre is another highlight, showcasing a variety of Himalayan flowers.

In the evening, you can explore MG Road for shopping and dining.

Day 11 – 20 May | Gangtok to Bagdogra – Departure

After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and proceed towards Bagdogra Airport. The journey takes around 4 to 5 hours.

As you travel back through the scenic roads, you will carry with you unforgettable memories of Bhutan’s serenity and Sikkim’s beauty.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will board your return flight, marking the end of a wonderful Himalayan journey.

Advanced Preparation
  • As everyone is becoming a frequent traveller now, we suggest that you make your own travel accessories kit to ensure a stress free holiday.

  • Always make sure to carry less and light luggage, use a four wheel small or medium suitcase and please make sure that you are carrying only one suitcase per person. This will ensure that you will travel smartly and without any inconveniences.
