Day wise Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Jammu – Transfer to Katra
Your journey begins with your arrival at Jammu Railway Station or Airport, where you will be received and transferred to Katra, the base town for the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. The drive from Jammu to Katra takes approximately 2 hours and passes through scenic landscapes of the lower Himalayas.
Upon arrival in Katra, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax after your journey. The town of Katra is well-developed with facilities for pilgrims, including shops, restaurants, and yatra registration counters. After freshening up, you can explore the local market and complete any necessary preparations for the Vaishno Devi Yatra.
In the evening, you may visit the Yatra Registration Counter (if not done online) and plan your trek accordingly. Many pilgrims prefer to start the trek late at night to reach the Bhawan early in the morning. You can also arrange for ponies, palki, or helicopter services depending on your preference and availability.
Katra has a spiritual and energetic atmosphere, with chants of “Jai Mata Di” echoing throughout the town, building anticipation for the sacred journey ahead. Ensure you carry comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing, and essential items for the trek.
Return to the hotel and rest well to prepare for the next day’s pilgrimage.
Overnight stay in Katra.
Day 2: Vaishno Devi Darshan
Early in the morning or late at night (as per your plan), begin your trek towards the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. The trek is approximately 12 kilometers one way and is well-paved with proper lighting, rest stops, and food stalls along the route.
As you ascend towards the Bhawan, the atmosphere becomes increasingly spiritual, with pilgrims chanting devotional hymns and encouraging each other along the way. The journey, though physically demanding, is deeply rewarding and filled with faith and devotion.
Upon reaching the Bhawan, proceed for darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi. The shrine is located inside a cave, and the experience of seeking blessings here is considered highly auspicious. After darshan, you may also visit the Bhairon Temple, located a short distance further uphill, which completes the pilgrimage as per tradition.
After completing the darshan, begin your descent back to Katra. The return journey can be done on foot or with the help of ponies or palki services.
By evening or late night, you will reach Katra and return to your hotel. The day concludes with a sense of spiritual fulfillment and achievement.
Overnight stay in Katra.
Day 3: Katra to Srinagar Transfer
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed towards Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. The journey is long but scenic, taking approximately 8 to 9 hours by road.
The drive passes through beautiful mountain roads, valleys, and tunnels, offering picturesque views throughout the journey. You will cross notable locations such as Patnitop and the Jawahar Tunnel, which marks the entry into the Kashmir Valley.
As you approach Srinagar, the landscape transforms into lush green fields, flowing rivers, and distant snow-capped mountains, creating a serene and refreshing atmosphere.
Upon arrival in Srinagar, check in to your hotel or houseboat, depending on your preference. After a long journey, take some time to relax and unwind.
In the evening, you may visit the local market or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Dal Lake. The calm waters, traditional houseboats, and scenic beauty of Srinagar create a memorable first impression.
Overnight stay in Srinagar.
Day 4: Srinagar & Gulmarg Excursion
After breakfast, proceed for a day excursion to Gulmarg, one of the most scenic hill stations in Kashmir, located approximately 50 kilometers from Srinagar.
The drive to Gulmarg passes through picturesque villages, pine forests, and rolling meadows. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by vast open landscapes surrounded by snow-covered peaks, depending on the season.
Gulmarg is famous for the Gondola ride, one of the highest cable car rides in the world. The ride takes you up to higher altitudes, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as snow play, photography, or simply relax amidst nature.
After spending quality time in Gulmarg, return to Srinagar in the evening. On the way back, enjoy the scenic beauty of the region once again.
