Day wise Itinerary

Day 1: Guwahati to Shillong – From Plains to the Clouds

Your journey begins in Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India, where warm air and busy streets slowly give way to rolling hills as you drive towards Shillong. The road gently climbs, and with every turn, the scenery changes—lush greenery, small villages, and mist floating lazily over the hills. A refreshing stop at Umiam Lake feels like nature’s welcome note. The vast blue waters surrounded by pine-covered hills instantly calm the mind and set the mood for the days ahead.

By afternoon, you arrive in Shillong, a charming hill town that blends colonial charm with youthful energy. After check-in, take some time to rest and soak in the cool weather, which feels like a reward after the journey. In the evening, step out to explore Police Bazaar, the heart of Shillong. The streets are lively with local shops, cafés, and street food stalls. You can browse for souvenirs, try local snacks, or simply enjoy watching the town come alive after sunset.

Shillong’s pleasant weather, gentle pace, and welcoming vibe make you feel at ease from the very first day. As night falls, the quiet hills wrap the town in peace, preparing you for deeper exploration of Meghalaya. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 2: Shillong Local Sightseeing – Culture, Waterfalls, and Views

The morning begins with fresh air and a relaxed breakfast before heading out to explore Shillong’s highlights. The first stop is Shillong Peak, offering a panoramic view of the city nestled among rolling hills. From here, you truly understand why Shillong is called the “Scotland of the East.”

Next, visit Elephant Falls, where water cascades down rocky steps surrounded by greenery. The sound of flowing water and cool mist adds a refreshing touch to the day. Moving ahead, the Don Bosco Museum introduces you to the rich culture and traditions of Northeast India. Each floor reveals stories of tribes, history, and everyday life, giving depth to your journey beyond landscapes.

A peaceful walk around Ward’s Lake follows, where tall trees and still waters create a calm atmosphere right in the middle of the city. Later, visit the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, a serene structure that reflects Shillong’s colonial past and spiritual side.

The afternoon is relaxed, allowing you to absorb the town’s charm without rushing. In the evening, you are free to revisit local markets, try a café, or simply rest. Shillong’s blend of culture, nature, and easy pace makes this day fulfilling yet unhurried. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 3: Shillong to Cherrapunji – Entering the Land of Waterfalls

After breakfast, the journey continues towards Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra. The drive itself is a visual treat, with clouds drifting across valleys and green cliffs stretching endlessly. Frequent viewpoints along the way invite you to pause, breathe, and admire the dramatic landscape.

Upon reaching Cherrapunji, your first major stop is Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. Watching water plunge from great heights into a deep pool below is both powerful and calming. Nearby viewpoints offer different angles, each more striking than the last.

Next, visit Mawsmai Cave, where you walk through naturally formed limestone passages. The play of light and shadow inside the cave adds an adventurous touch, making it a memorable experience. Later, stop at Seven Sisters Falls or Eco Park, depending on weather conditions, to enjoy wide views of the plains of Bangladesh in the distance.

By evening, Cherrapunji’s quiet surroundings and misty air create a peaceful atmosphere. Far from city noise, this is a place to slow down and connect with nature. The sound of distant waterfalls often accompanies the night, making the stay truly special. Overnight in Cherrapunji.

Day 4: Cherrapunji to Dawki and Mawlynnong – Nature at Its Purest

The day starts early as you set out for a scenic journey covering Dawki and Mawlynnong. The road winds through dense forests and deep valleys, offering constant views of untouched nature. On reaching Dawki, the Umngot River instantly captures attention. Its crystal-clear water reflects the sky so perfectly that boats appear to float in the air. Spending time here feels unreal, as silence and clarity dominate the surroundings.

From Dawki, the journey continues to Mawlynnong, often called the cleanest village in Asia. Walking through the village lanes, you notice spotless paths, well-maintained homes, and a strong sense of community pride. The village reflects a lifestyle deeply connected to nature and discipline. Nearby, a short walk leads to the Living Root Bridge, a natural wonder shaped patiently over generations.

As the day comes to an end, you drive back to Shillong. Though long, the journey feels rewarding, filled with experiences that show Meghalaya’s true essence. Reaching Shillong by evening, you rest with memories of rivers, villages, and timeless natural beauty. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 5: Shillong to Guwahati – A Gentle Return

After breakfast, you begin the drive back to Guwahati. The route feels familiar now, yet the scenery still feels fresh. Hills slowly give way to plains, marking the transition from Meghalaya’s cool calm to Assam’s warmth.

On reaching Guwahati, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax. The city offers a different energy—busy yet culturally rich. In the evening, you may choose to enjoy a Brahmaputra River Cruise, where the wide river, gentle breeze, and city lights create a soothing experience. Alternatively, a visit to local markets allows you to shop for traditional items or sweets to take home.

This day acts as a soft pause before the journey ends, giving you time to reflect on the past days. The contrast between Guwahati and Meghalaya highlights how diverse the Northeast truly is. Overnight stay in Guwahati.

Day 6: Guwahati Departure – Memories to Carry Home

The final morning begins with breakfast and quiet packing. As you prepare to leave, memories of misty hills, waterfalls, clear rivers, and peaceful villages stay fresh in your mind. The journey may be ending, but the experiences feel deeply personal and lasting.

You are dropped at the airport or railway station for your onward journey. Meghalaya leaves behind not just photographs, but a sense of calm and connection with nature. The tour concludes, but its stories continue long after you return home.
