Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Guwahati | Where the Journey Begins

Your journey into the mystical Northeast begins as you arrive in Guwahati, the vibrant gateway to the Seven Sisters. As your flight descends, the mighty Brahmaputra River appears like a silver ribbon cutting across the plains of Assam — a grand welcome to this land of natural beauty and spiritual depth.

After a warm welcome at the airport, you are transferred to your hotel. The pace of the city feels calm and welcoming, a refreshing contrast to metropolitan rush. After check-in and some relaxation, the evening takes you to one of India’s most revered spiritual sites — the sacred Kamakhya Temple.

Perched atop Nilachal Hill, the temple offers panoramic views of Guwahati and the wide Brahmaputra below. As you climb the steps and enter the temple complex, the atmosphere becomes deeply spiritual. The sound of temple bells, chanting priests, and incense in the air create a powerful yet peaceful energy. This ancient Shakti Peetha, dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, holds immense mythological importance. Standing here, you feel a connection to centuries of devotion and tradition.

As the sun begins to set, you head toward the riverfront for a magical Brahmaputra sunset cruise. The boat gently moves across the wide river while the sky turns shades of orange and pink. Traditional Assamese music and dance performances onboard add cultural charm to the evening. The cool river breeze, the rhythmic sound of water, and distant temple silhouettes make for a perfect introduction to the Northeast.

You return to your hotel with a peaceful heart and growing excitement for the adventure ahead.

Overnight Stay: Guwahati

Day 2 – Guwahati to Shillong

After breakfast, you bid farewell to Assam’s plains and begin your scenic journey toward Shillong, the charming capital of Meghalaya. As the road gradually ascends into the Khasi Hills, the scenery transforms dramatically.

The first major stop is the breathtaking Umiam Lake. Spread wide between forested hills, the calm blue waters shimmer under the sunlight. It feels almost like a European countryside scene. A short halt here for photographs and fresh mountain air sets the tone for the days ahead.

As you continue the drive, pine trees begin to appear, and the air turns noticeably cooler. By afternoon, you reach Shillong — often called the “Scotland of the East.” After hotel check-in and lunch, the evening is relaxed.

You explore Police Bazaar, the lively heart of Shillong. The streets are lined with colorful shops selling woollens, bamboo handicrafts, and local snacks. The cool breeze, friendly faces, and vibrant market energy give you your first taste of Khasi culture.

As night falls, the hill town glows softly under streetlights, and you retire to your hotel feeling refreshed and eager for tomorrow’s exploration.

Overnight Stay: Shillong

Day 3 – Discovering Shillong | Nature Meets Heritage

The day begins with a refreshing breakfast before you set out to explore the beauty of Shillong. Your first destination is Shillong Peak, the highest point in the region. From here, panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills stretch endlessly. On clear days, distant mountain ranges appear faintly against the horizon.

Next, you visit the picturesque Elephant Falls. The cascading water flows gracefully through layered rocks surrounded by greenery. The sound of flowing water and cool mist create a peaceful atmosphere perfect for photographs and relaxation.

Later, you take a leisurely walk around Ward’s Lake, a charming man-made lake surrounded by gardens and walking paths. The still waters reflect the trees and sky, offering a calm pause in the day.

Your cultural immersion continues at the Don Bosco Museum, one of the finest museums dedicated to Northeast India’s tribal heritage. The exhibits showcase traditional attire, musical instruments, and lifestyle models of various tribes, helping you understand the region’s rich diversity.

By evening, you return to your hotel with a deeper appreciation of Meghalaya’s natural and cultural beauty.

Overnight Stay: Shillong

Day 4 – Shillong to Cherrapunjee | Land of Waterfalls & Mist

After a relaxed breakfast in Shillong, you begin your short yet incredibly scenic drive toward Cherrapunjee, locally known as Sohra. Though the distance is small, the experience is grand. The road curves gently through deep valleys, dramatic cliffs, and endless stretches of greenery. Clouds often drift at eye level here, creating a magical feeling as if you are driving through the sky.

Your first stop is the breathtaking Nohkalikai Falls — India’s tallest plunge waterfall. As you approach the viewpoint, the sound of cascading water grows louder. Suddenly, the view opens up to reveal water plunging dramatically from a towering cliff into a turquoise pool far below. The sheer height and beauty of the falls leave everyone silent for a moment. Mist rises from the base, and when sunlight hits just right, tiny rainbows form in the spray.

Next, you visit the Seven Sisters Falls, where multiple streams of water cascade side by side down a wide cliff face. During monsoon season, the falls are especially powerful and mesmerizing. On clear days, the plains of Bangladesh stretch out far in the distance, creating a unique cross-border view.

The adventure continues at Mawsmai Cave, a fascinating limestone cave system filled with natural rock formations. As you walk through narrow passages and low ceilings, you feel as though you’ve stepped into nature’s secret underground world. The cool cave air contrasts beautifully with the misty climate outside.

The day concludes at Eco Park, offering sweeping views of green valleys and distant hills. The peaceful environment allows you to sit quietly and simply absorb the grandeur of Meghalaya’s landscapes.

By evening, Cherrapunjee wraps itself in cool mist, creating a magical mountain atmosphere as you settle into your hotel.

Overnight Stay: Cherrapunjee

Day 5 – Living Root Bridges & Dawki | Nature’s Engineering Marvel

The morning in Cherrapunjee begins early with fresh mountain air and birdsong. Today promises a truly unique experience as you travel toward Mawlynnong, known worldwide as “Asia’s Cleanest Village.”

As you arrive, you immediately notice the spotless pathways, bamboo dustbins, and flower-filled courtyards. The entire village feels harmonious and welcoming. Cleanliness here is not enforced — it is a way of life. You walk through narrow stone lanes, interact with friendly locals, and witness how community participation has transformed this village into a global example of sustainability.

A short forest walk leads you to one of Meghalaya’s most fascinating wonders — the Living Root Bridge. Unlike conventional bridges, these are grown over decades by guiding the roots of rubber trees across streams. Standing on this living structure, you realize how beautifully human patience and nature can work together. The bridge feels strong, organic, and timeless.

From Mawlynnong, you continue to Dawki, a small border town famous for the Umngot River. As you reach the riverbank, the sight is almost unbelievable. The water is so crystal clear that boats appear to float in mid-air. During the boat ride, you can clearly see pebbles, fish, and the riverbed beneath you. The surrounding green hills reflect perfectly on the transparent water, creating postcard-perfect scenery.

After a peaceful time at Dawki, you drive back to Shillong by evening, carrying unforgettable memories of nature’s purity.

Overnight Stay: Shillong

Day 6 – Shillong to Kaziranga | From Hills to the Wild Plains

After breakfast, you leave the cool Khasi Hills behind and begin your journey toward Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The road gradually descends from pine-covered slopes into wide open plains. Tea gardens begin to appear on both sides of the highway, stretching endlessly in neat rows.

You cross the mighty Brahmaputra River once again, its vast waters reminding you of the journey’s starting point. The scenery shifts from mountain landscapes to rural Assam’s peaceful countryside — small villages, grazing cattle, and local markets add authenticity to the drive.

By afternoon, you reach Kaziranga and check into your wildlife resort. The atmosphere here feels different — earthy, quiet, and surrounded by tall elephant grass. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is globally known for protecting the rare one-horned rhinoceros.

The evening is relaxed. You may explore the property or simply sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature — chirping birds, rustling grass, and distant forest calls. The anticipation builds for tomorrow’s safari adventure.

Tonight, you fall asleep surrounded by wilderness, ready to step into the wild heart of Northeast India.

Overnight Stay: Kaziranga

Day 7 – Kaziranga Safari | Into the Wild Heart of Assam

Before the first light of dawn touches the grasslands, you are already awake, wrapped in the quiet excitement of a wildlife morning. A light mist floats over the open fields of Kaziranga as you head toward the safari zone. The cool air carries the earthy scent of wet soil and tall elephant grass, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience.

As your jeep enters the national park, the wilderness slowly comes alive. The golden rays of the rising sun cut through the mist, revealing vast grasslands stretching endlessly. Suddenly, there it is — the majestic one-horned rhinoceros grazing peacefully in its natural habitat. Seeing this magnificent creature up close is a powerful moment. Its armored body and calm presence feel ancient and dignified.

The safari continues through wetlands and forest patches. You may spot herds of wild elephants moving gracefully in the distance, swamp deer leaping through grass, or wild buffalo standing strong near water bodies. Bird lovers are treated to sightings of vibrant kingfishers, hornbills, and migratory birds gliding across the sky.

Every turn of the trail brings suspense and wonder. The park feels raw yet peaceful — a reminder of nature untouched by modern chaos.

After returning to the resort for breakfast, the rest of the day is relaxed. Some choose to enjoy a second safari in a different range of the park, increasing the chances of more wildlife sightings. Others prefer to unwind, soaking in the quiet charm of the surroundings.

In the evening, you may experience a traditional Assamese cultural performance. Folk music and dance bring a colorful cultural touch to the wilderness setting.

As night falls, the distant sounds of the forest create a soothing lullaby. Today was not just about spotting animals — it was about witnessing nature in its purest form.

Overnight Stay: Kaziranga

Day 8 – Kaziranga to Dirang | Journey into the Eastern Himalayas

After breakfast, you bid farewell to Kaziranga’s wild plains and begin your journey toward Arunachal Pradesh. The transition from grasslands to mountains happens gradually but dramatically.

The drive takes you through Bhalukpong, the official entry point into Arunachal. Here, your Inner Line Permits are verified before you continue into this protected Himalayan state. As the road begins to ascend, the scenery transforms into dense forests, flowing rivers, and winding mountain curves.

The air becomes cooler and fresher with every kilometer. Pine trees replace open fields, and the sound of rushing streams accompanies the drive. The journey itself feels like an adventure, with scenic viewpoints appearing at every turn.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Dirang, a peaceful valley town surrounded by towering mountains. Compared to the plains, Dirang feels quiet and untouched. The crisp air and serene landscape instantly relax your senses.

If time permits, you may visit the Dirang Monastery, where colorful prayer flags flutter against a mountain backdrop. The monastery offers a glimpse into Buddhist culture and a peaceful moment of reflection. Some travelers also visit the nearby hot water springs, known for their soothing properties.

As evening settles, the valley turns golden under the setting sun. The silence here feels comforting — a perfect pause before heading to higher altitudes tomorrow.

You rest in Dirang, feeling the excitement of the Himalayan adventure that lies ahead.

Overnight Stay: Dirang

Day 9 – Dirang to Tawang | Crossing Sela Pass

Today is one of the most spectacular drives of the entire journey. After breakfast, you begin your ascent toward Tawang, climbing deeper into the Eastern Himalayas.

The road winds through dramatic mountain landscapes. Snow-capped peaks begin to appear in the distance. Prayer flags line certain stretches, fluttering brightly against the blue sky.

Soon you reach the breathtaking Sela Pass, standing proudly at 13,700 feet above sea level. The temperature drops sharply, and the air feels thin yet incredibly pure. Sela Lake sits quietly beside the pass, its clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. The silence here feels almost sacred.

You pause for photographs and simply absorb the grandeur of the high Himalayas. It is a place where nature feels powerful yet peaceful.

On the way, you stop at Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to a brave Indian soldier of the 1962 Indo-China war. The memorial stands as a tribute to courage and sacrifice, adding emotional depth to the day’s journey.

By evening, you arrive in Tawang, a charming mountain town at nearly 10,000 feet. The air is crisp, and the surrounding mountains glow softly in the fading sunlight.

As you check into your hotel, you realize you have truly entered a different world — one of high mountains, spiritual calmness, and timeless beauty.

Overnight Stay: Tawang

Day 10 – Tawang Local Sightseeing | The Spiritual Soul of the Mountains

You wake up in Tawang to crisp mountain air and breathtaking views of mist-covered peaks. The silence here feels sacred, broken only by distant monastery bells and soft morning chants carried by the wind.

After breakfast, you head toward the magnificent Tawang Monastery — the largest monastery in India and the second-largest in the world. As you approach, the grand structure stands proudly against the Himalayan backdrop, its golden rooftops shining in the morning light.

Stepping inside, you enter a world of calm devotion. The massive golden statue of Lord Buddha radiates peace, while colorful murals depicting Buddhist teachings adorn the walls. Rows of young monks sit cross-legged during morning prayers, their rhythmic chanting echoing gently through the hall. The atmosphere is powerful yet soothing, and you feel completely present in the moment.

You explore the monastery museum, which houses ancient scriptures, traditional masks, and cultural artifacts. Each item tells a story of centuries-old traditions preserved in this remote Himalayan town.

Next, you visit the Tawang War Memorial, dedicated to Indian soldiers who bravely defended the nation during the 1962 Indo-China war. The memorial stands tall against the mountains, reminding visitors of courage and sacrifice. The panoramic views from here add to the emotional experience.

Later, you explore Urgeling Monastery, believed to be the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama. The simplicity of this monastery contrasts beautifully with the grandeur of Tawang Monastery, yet both share a deep spiritual essence.

In the evening, you stroll through Tawang’s local market. Small shops sell woollen clothes, prayer flags, handicrafts, and local delicacies like momos and thukpa. The friendly smiles of locals and the peaceful rhythm of the town make you feel at home.

As the sun sets behind the Himalayan peaks, the sky glows in pink and orange hues. It is a day filled with spirituality, history, and mountain beauty.

Overnight Stay: Tawang

Day 11 – Bum La Pass & Madhuri Lake | At the Edge of the Nation

Today’s journey takes you even higher — toward the India-China border at Bum La Pass. After an early breakfast, you begin the adventurous drive through rugged mountain terrain.

The road climbs steadily, revealing breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and frozen lakes. The air grows thinner and colder as you approach Bum La Pass, situated at over 15,000 feet above sea level.

Standing at the border feels surreal. On one side lies India, on the other China. The silence here is powerful, broken only by strong mountain winds. The vast open landscape stretches endlessly, creating a feeling of awe and humility.

On the return journey, you stop at Madhuri Lake (Sangetsar Lake). Surrounded by mountains and partially submerged tree trunks, the lake looks mystical. Its calm waters reflect the sky and peaks, creating a picture-perfect moment.

You also visit Nuranang Falls (Jang Falls), where water cascades forcefully down rocky cliffs. The roaring sound contrasts beautifully with the quiet of high-altitude landscapes.

By late afternoon, you descend back toward Dirang. The drop in altitude brings slightly warmer air and easier breathing. The scenic drive allows you to reflect on the extraordinary experience of standing at one of India’s highest borders.

By evening, you arrive in Dirang, feeling both exhilarated and peaceful.

Overnight Stay: Dirang

Day 12 – Dirang to Guwahati | From Mountains to Plains

After breakfast, you begin your long yet scenic journey back to Guwahati. The road gradually descends from pine-covered mountains to lush green valleys.

As you pass through Bhalukpong once again, you officially re-enter Assam. The landscape shifts from dramatic Himalayan peaks to rolling plains and tea gardens. The mighty Brahmaputra River reappears, welcoming you back to where your journey began.

The drive feels reflective. Over the past days, you have crossed high mountain passes, walked through misty valleys, sailed crystal rivers, and experienced diverse cultures. Each memory feels vivid and unforgettable.

By evening, you reach Guwahati and check into your hotel. The city feels familiar now, almost like a full circle moment.

The night is relaxed — perhaps a final dinner together, sharing laughter and stories from the journey.

Overnight Stay: Guwahati

Day 13 – Departure | Carrying the Northeast in Your Heart

The final morning arrives gently. After breakfast, you prepare for your departure. There may be time for last-minute shopping or a short visit to Umananda Temple on Peacock Island if flight timings allow.

As you head toward the airport, the Brahmaputra flows calmly beside the city — just as it did on Day 1. But you feel different now. You have seen waterfalls plunge from cliffs, rivers clear as glass, rhinos grazing in the wild, monasteries echoing with chants, and mountain passes touching the sky.

This 13-day journey through Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh has offered not just sightseeing but transformation. Nature here is raw, spiritual, and breathtaking. The culture is warm and deeply rooted. The mountains have a quiet power that stays with you.

As your flight takes off, you carry with you unforgettable memories — of mist, mountains, music, and moments that will remain etched in your heart forever.
