Day wise Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Guwahati and Journey to Shillong
Your North East adventure begins as you arrive at Guwahati, the vibrant gateway to the beautiful states of the Eastern Himalayas. After meeting your driver, the journey immediately starts towards Shillong, the charming hill station of Meghalaya often called the Scotland of the East.
As the vehicle leaves the busy plains of Assam behind, the landscape slowly transforms into rolling green hills, pine forests and cool mountain air. The road climbs gently through scenic countryside, offering the first glimpse of the natural beauty that makes this region so special.
On the way, a refreshing stop is made at the stunning Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani. This vast lake surrounded by forested hills is one of the most picturesque locations in Meghalaya. Travelers often pause here to stretch their legs, take photographs and simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings as the cool breeze flows across the water.
After this relaxing break, the journey continues towards Shillong. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and take some time to relax after the day’s travel. In the evening, step out to explore Police Bazaar, the lively heart of the city. The colorful markets, local shops and small cafés give visitors a first taste of the unique culture of Meghalaya.
It is a pleasant introduction to the North East, where the pace of life slows down and nature becomes the main highlight. After a relaxed evening, return to the hotel for dinner and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Shillong, preparing for an exciting day of sightseeing tomorrow.
Day 2 – Exploring the Beauty of Shillong
The morning begins with a fresh mountain breeze and a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Today is dedicated to discovering the scenic beauty and cultural charm of Shillong, one of the most pleasant hill stations in North East India.
The first stop of the day is Shillong Peak, the highest point in the region. From here, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Shillong town spread across the surrounding hills. On a clear day, the view stretches far into the distant plains of Bangladesh.
Next, the journey continues to the famous Elephant Falls, a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall hidden among thick greenery. The sound of cascading water and the cool forest surroundings make it a refreshing place to spend some time. A short walk along the steps allows visitors to see the falls from different levels.
Later, visit the peaceful Ward’s Lake, located in the center of the city. Surrounded by well-maintained gardens and walking paths, it is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere of Shillong.
The day also includes a visit to the Don Bosco Museum, which beautifully showcases the traditions, lifestyle and culture of the various tribes of North East India. The museum provides a deeper understanding of the rich heritage of this region.
By evening, return to Police Bazaar where you can shop for handicrafts, souvenirs and local products. After a pleasant day of exploration, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Shillong.
Day 3 – Dawki, Mawlynnong and Journey to Cherrapunji
After breakfast, the day begins with an exciting drive towards the southern part of Meghalaya. The road passes through beautiful hills and small villages before reaching the famous town of Dawki, located close to the India–Bangladesh border.
Dawki is well known for the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River, where boats appear to float in mid-air because of the extraordinary transparency of the water. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing boat ride while admiring the surrounding hills and peaceful landscape.
From Dawki, the journey continues to Mawlynnong, widely known as the Cleanest Village in Asia. The village is a perfect example of community effort and environmental care. Neatly maintained pathways, bamboo houses and flowering gardens create a charming and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can also climb the bamboo Sky Walk, which offers a unique view of the green plains stretching into neighboring Bangladesh.
Later in the afternoon, the drive continues towards Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. The region is famous for its dramatic cliffs, misty valleys and powerful waterfalls.
Before checking in at the hotel, visit the magnificent Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Watching the water plunge deep into the valley below is truly a spectacular sight.

Later, visit Eco Park, a viewpoint area that offers panoramic views of the deep valleys and plains of Bangladesh far below. It is a peaceful location where travelers can take photographs and enjoy the natural beauty of Meghalaya.
After completing the sightseeing in Cherrapunji, begin the long but scenic journey towards Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The drive gradually descends from the hills into the fertile plains of Assam, passing through small towns, forests and tea plantations.
By evening, arrive at Kaziranga and check in at the resort. Surrounded by greenery and wildlife habitats, the atmosphere here is completely different from the mountain landscapes of Meghalaya. After dinner, relax and prepare for the exciting wildlife experience awaiting the next day. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.
Day 5 – Kaziranga Wildlife Safari Experience
Today is dedicated to exploring the world-famous Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important wildlife reserves in India. The park is particularly famous for its population of the rare one-horned rhinoceros.
The day begins early in the morning with an exciting Elephant Safari inside the national park. Riding on the back of an elephant through the tall grasslands provides a unique opportunity to observe wildlife at close range. Visitors may spot rhinos grazing in the grass, wild buffalo, deer and various species of birds in their natural habitat.
After the safari, return to the resort for breakfast and some relaxation time. Later in the day, another adventure awaits with a Jeep Safari through a different zone of the national park. The jeep allows travelers to cover a larger area of the reserve, increasing the chances of spotting animals such as elephants, swamp deer and sometimes even wild boar or exotic birds.
Kaziranga’s landscape is a beautiful mix of grasslands, wetlands and forests, making it one of the richest ecosystems in India. The experience of seeing wildlife in such a natural setting makes this day one of the highlights of the entire journey.
