The journey starts with a visit to Shillong, the charming hill station often called the Scotland of the East. Surrounded by pine forests, waterfalls and lakes, Shillong offers pleasant weather and vibrant local markets. From here the tour continues to Dawki, famous for the crystal-clear Umngot River, and Mawlynnong, known as the cleanest village in Asia. The group then travels to Cherrapunji, a land of dramatic cliffs, caves and spectacular waterfalls including the famous Nohkalikai Falls.

Next, the tour proceeds to Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the rare one-horned rhinoceros. Guests enjoy exciting elephant and jeep safaris through the vast grasslands and wetlands of the park.

From the plains of Assam, the journey climbs into the high mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. Passing through scenic valleys and high altitude passes, the tour reaches Dirang and later the beautiful town of Tawang. Visitors experience the majestic Sela Pass, serene alpine lakes and the historic Tawang Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the world. The region offers breathtaking Himalayan views and a glimpse into the rich Buddhist culture of the area.

The tour concludes with a return to Guwahati, including a visit to the sacred Kamakhya Temple, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India.

With comfortable travel in a dedicated vehicle and meals included under the MAP plan (Breakfast and Dinner), this tour offers a memorable exploration of the natural beauty and cultural richness of North East India.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Guwahati and Journey to Shillong

Your North East adventure begins as you arrive at Guwahati, the vibrant gateway to the beautiful states of the Eastern Himalayas. After meeting your driver, the journey immediately starts towards Shillong, the charming hill station of Meghalaya often called the Scotland of the East.

As the vehicle leaves the busy plains of Assam behind, the landscape slowly transforms into rolling green hills, pine forests and cool mountain air. The road climbs gently through scenic countryside, offering the first glimpse of the natural beauty that makes this region so special.

On the way, a refreshing stop is made at the stunning Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani. This vast lake surrounded by forested hills is one of the most picturesque locations in Meghalaya. Travelers often pause here to stretch their legs, take photographs and simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings as the cool breeze flows across the water.

After this relaxing break, the journey continues towards Shillong. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and take some time to relax after the day’s travel. In the evening, step out to explore Police Bazaar, the lively heart of the city. The colorful markets, local shops and small cafés give visitors a first taste of the unique culture of Meghalaya.

It is a pleasant introduction to the North East, where the pace of life slows down and nature becomes the main highlight. After a relaxed evening, return to the hotel for dinner and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Shillong, preparing for an exciting day of sightseeing tomorrow.

Day 2 – Exploring the Beauty of Shillong

The morning begins with a fresh mountain breeze and a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Today is dedicated to discovering the scenic beauty and cultural charm of Shillong, one of the most pleasant hill stations in North East India.

The first stop of the day is Shillong Peak, the highest point in the region. From here, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Shillong town spread across the surrounding hills. On a clear day, the view stretches far into the distant plains of Bangladesh.

Next, the journey continues to the famous Elephant Falls, a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall hidden among thick greenery. The sound of cascading water and the cool forest surroundings make it a refreshing place to spend some time. A short walk along the steps allows visitors to see the falls from different levels.

Later, visit the peaceful Ward’s Lake, located in the center of the city. Surrounded by well-maintained gardens and walking paths, it is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere of Shillong.

The day also includes a visit to the Don Bosco Museum, which beautifully showcases the traditions, lifestyle and culture of the various tribes of North East India. The museum provides a deeper understanding of the rich heritage of this region.

By evening, return to Police Bazaar where you can shop for handicrafts, souvenirs and local products. After a pleasant day of exploration, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 3 – Dawki, Mawlynnong and Journey to Cherrapunji

After breakfast, the day begins with an exciting drive towards the southern part of Meghalaya. The road passes through beautiful hills and small villages before reaching the famous town of Dawki, located close to the India–Bangladesh border.

Dawki is well known for the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River, where boats appear to float in mid-air because of the extraordinary transparency of the water. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing boat ride while admiring the surrounding hills and peaceful landscape.

From Dawki, the journey continues to Mawlynnong, widely known as the Cleanest Village in Asia. The village is a perfect example of community effort and environmental care. Neatly maintained pathways, bamboo houses and flowering gardens create a charming and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can also climb the bamboo Sky Walk, which offers a unique view of the green plains stretching into neighboring Bangladesh.

Later in the afternoon, the drive continues towards Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. The region is famous for its dramatic cliffs, misty valleys and powerful waterfalls.

Before checking in at the hotel, visit the magnificent Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Watching the water plunge deep into the valley below is truly a spectacular sight.

As evening approaches, settle into your hotel in Cherrapunji, enjoy dinner and relax amidst the cool mountain atmosphere, ready for more exploration the next day.

Day 4 – Cherrapunji Exploration and Journey to Kaziranga

The morning in Cherrapunji begins with cool mountain air and beautiful views of misty valleys stretching far into the distance. After breakfast, the day starts with exploring some of the most famous attractions of this region, which is known worldwide for its dramatic landscapes and heavy rainfall.

The first visit is to the impressive Seven Sisters Falls, a magnificent waterfall that flows down a wide cliff in multiple streams. During the monsoon season it becomes even more spectacular, but even in other months the view of the surrounding green valley is breathtaking.

Next, explore the fascinating Mawsmai Caves, one of the most accessible limestone caves in Meghalaya. Walking through the narrow passages of the cave with natural rock formations and cool underground air is an exciting experience for visitors.

Later, visit Eco Park, a viewpoint area that offers panoramic views of the deep valleys and plains of Bangladesh far below. It is a peaceful location where travelers can take photographs and enjoy the natural beauty of Meghalaya.

After completing the sightseeing in Cherrapunji, begin the long but scenic journey towards Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The drive gradually descends from the hills into the fertile plains of Assam, passing through small towns, forests and tea plantations.

By evening, arrive at Kaziranga and check in at the resort. Surrounded by greenery and wildlife habitats, the atmosphere here is completely different from the mountain landscapes of Meghalaya. After dinner, relax and prepare for the exciting wildlife experience awaiting the next day. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Day 5 – Kaziranga Wildlife Safari Experience

Today is dedicated to exploring the world-famous Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important wildlife reserves in India. The park is particularly famous for its population of the rare one-horned rhinoceros.

The day begins early in the morning with an exciting Elephant Safari inside the national park. Riding on the back of an elephant through the tall grasslands provides a unique opportunity to observe wildlife at close range. Visitors may spot rhinos grazing in the grass, wild buffalo, deer and various species of birds in their natural habitat.

After the safari, return to the resort for breakfast and some relaxation time. Later in the day, another adventure awaits with a Jeep Safari through a different zone of the national park. The jeep allows travelers to cover a larger area of the reserve, increasing the chances of spotting animals such as elephants, swamp deer and sometimes even wild boar or exotic birds.

Kaziranga’s landscape is a beautiful mix of grasslands, wetlands and forests, making it one of the richest ecosystems in India. The experience of seeing wildlife in such a natural setting makes this day one of the highlights of the entire journey.

In the evening, visitors may explore nearby cultural centers or relax at the resort surrounded by nature. Dinner and overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Day 6 – Kaziranga to Dirang

After breakfast, the journey continues towards the scenic hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Today’s drive is one of the most beautiful segments of the tour as the road gradually climbs from the plains of Assam into the Eastern Himalayan ranges.

The route passes through lush green valleys, rivers and small mountain villages where travelers can observe the peaceful lifestyle of the local communities. The changing landscape, fresh mountain air and scenic surroundings make the journey enjoyable throughout the day.

By afternoon, reach the charming town of Dirang, located in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains. Dirang is known for its pleasant climate, apple orchards and traditional villages.

After check-in at the hotel, visit the peaceful Dirang Monastery, where the quiet atmosphere and prayer flags fluttering in the wind create a very spiritual environment. Travelers may also explore the small local market and interact with the friendly locals of the region.

Dinner and overnight stay in Dirang, enjoying the calm Himalayan surroundings.

Day 7 – Dirang to Tawang via Sela Pass

After breakfast, begin one of the most exciting drives of the tour as you travel towards the famous mountain town of Tawang. The journey passes through some of the most spectacular Himalayan landscapes.

The highlight of the drive is the breathtaking Sela Pass, located at an altitude of around 13,700 feet. This high mountain pass remains covered with snow for much of the year and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Near the pass lies the beautiful Sela Lake, which often remains partially frozen and adds to the magical scenery.

Further along the route, stop at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to the brave soldier Jaswant Singh Rawat who displayed extraordinary courage during the 1962 Indo-China war. The memorial stands as a tribute to the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.

Continuing through the mountains, arrive at Tawang by evening. After check-in at the hotel, relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful Himalayan town. Dinner and overnight stay in Tawang.

Day 8 – Discovering the Beauty of Tawang

After breakfast, the day begins with a visit to the magnificent Tawang Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the world and the most important spiritual center of Arunachal Pradesh. Built in the 17th century, the monastery houses hundreds of monks and offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains.

Next, visit the impressive Tawang War Memorial, which honors the brave soldiers who fought during the 1962 Indo-China conflict. The memorial stands proudly overlooking the valley and is a place of deep respect and remembrance.

The sightseeing continues with a visit to Urgeling Monastery, believed to be the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. This peaceful monastery reflects the spiritual heritage of the region.

Later explore the local craft center and markets, where visitors can see traditional handicrafts, carpets and woolen products made by local artisans. The markets also provide an opportunity to experience the unique culture and lifestyle of the Monpa tribe.

After a fulfilling day exploring Tawang, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9 – Tawang to Bomdila

After breakfast, begin the return journey towards Bomdila, another charming hill town of Arunachal Pradesh. The drive again passes through beautiful mountain landscapes, offering many opportunities to enjoy the natural scenery of the Eastern Himalayas.

Along the way, travelers can pause at scenic viewpoints to admire the valleys, rivers and forests that make this region so picturesque. The journey is peaceful and refreshing as the road winds through quiet mountain villages and lush green hills.

Upon reaching Bomdila, check in at the hotel and relax for some time. Later visit the serene Bomdila Monastery, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding valley and mountains. The calm atmosphere and colorful prayer flags create a perfect environment for relaxation and reflection.

Visitors may also explore the small local market where traditional handicrafts and woolen products are available.

Day 10 – Bomdila to Guwahati

After breakfast, begin the drive back to Guwahati. The road gradually descends from the mountains back into the plains of Assam, passing through scenic countryside, tea gardens and small villages.

The journey takes around 7 to 8 hours, but the changing landscapes make the drive enjoyable. Travelers often notice how the cool mountain climate slowly transitions into the warmer plains of Assam.

Upon arrival in Guwahati, check in at the hotel and relax. In the evening, visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple, one of the most important Shakti Peethas in India. Located on Nilachal Hill, the temple holds great religious significance and attracts pilgrims from all over the country.

The visit to this spiritual place provides a peaceful conclusion to the adventurous journey through the North East.

Dinner and overnight stay in Guwahati.
