Day wise Itinerary

Day 1: Pune to Badami – Journey into the Deccan

Your Hampi & Badami Classic tour begins from Pune in the evening. As the group assembles and the journey starts by AC sleeper coach/private bus, excitement slowly builds. Overnight travel allows you to relax while heading towards the historical land of Karnataka. Comfortable seating and smooth highways make the journey pleasant.

By early morning, you arrive at Badami, a town surrounded by red sandstone cliffs. After freshening up and breakfast, the exploration begins. The highlight of the day is the famous Badami Cave Temples. Carved directly into the rock during the 6th century Chalukya period, these caves showcase detailed sculptures of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Jain Tirthankaras. The craftsmanship and scale of these caves leave every visitor amazed.

Later, visit Agastya Lake, where the reflection of the Bhutanatha Temple in the water creates a picture-perfect view. The calm surroundings add a peaceful touch to the historic atmosphere. You may also explore Badami Fort for panoramic views of the town and surrounding hills.

In the evening, enjoy a relaxed walk through the local market. Overnight stay at Badami.

Day 2: Aihole & Pattadakal – The Cradle of Temple Architecture

After breakfast, proceed towards Aihole, often called the “Cradle of Indian Temple Architecture.” Aihole is home to over 100 ancient temples, each showcasing early experiments in temple design. Visit the Durga Temple, known for its unique semi-circular shape, and Lad Khan Temple, one of the oldest temple structures in India. The intricate carvings and stone work reflect the architectural brilliance of the Chalukya dynasty.

Next, continue to Pattadakal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pattadakal is famous for its grand temple complex that beautifully combines North Indian (Nagara) and South Indian (Dravidian) architectural styles. Explore the Virupaksha Temple and Mallikarjuna Temple, both built in the 8th century. The detailed carvings depicting mythological stories are truly impressive.

After sightseeing, return to Badami. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay at Badami.

Day 3: Badami to Hampi – From Chalukyas to Vijayanagara

After breakfast, check out and begin your journey towards Hampi. The drive takes you through scenic countryside landscapes dotted with small villages and rocky terrain.

Upon arrival in Hampi, check into the hotel and freshen up. In the afternoon, begin exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, once the capital of the mighty Vijayanagara Empire. Visit the sacred Virupaksha Temple, one of the oldest functioning temples in India. Walk through Hampi Bazaar and admire the massive stone structures around you.

Later, visit Hemakuta Hill to witness a breathtaking sunset over the ruins. The view of ancient temples scattered among giant boulders creates a magical atmosphere.

Overnight stay at Hampi.

Day 4: Hampi Full Day Exploration – Glory of Vijayanagara

After breakfast, get ready for a complete day exploring the magnificent ruins of Hampi. Today is all about stepping back into the golden age of the Vijayanagara Empire. The landscape itself feels dramatic — giant boulders balanced over hills, wide open courtyards, and ancient stone pathways that whisper stories of the past.

Begin with the iconic Vittala Temple complex, the architectural masterpiece of Hampi. The highlight here is the world-famous Stone Chariot, beautifully carved from granite. The musical pillars of the temple are another wonder — a true example of advanced craftsmanship of that era. As you walk through the vast temple courtyards, you can almost imagine grand festivals and royal ceremonies that once took place here.

Next, explore the Royal Enclosure, which was once the political center of the empire. Visit the Queen’s Bath, an impressive structure with Indo-Islamic style architecture. Continue to the Lotus Mahal, known for its unique design blending Hindu and Islamic styles. Nearby, the Elephant Stables stand tall, showcasing how royal elephants were once housed with care and grandeur.

Later, visit Hazara Rama Temple, famous for its detailed carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Each wall tells a story, making it a paradise for history lovers and photographers.

In the evening, you may choose to climb Matanga Hill for a spectacular sunset view or enjoy some peaceful time near the Tungabhadra River. The golden light falling on ancient ruins creates a magical and unforgettable atmosphere.

Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Hampi.

Day 5: Hampi to Pune – Return with Timeless Memories

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning in Hampi. You may visit local markets for souvenirs like stone artifacts, handicrafts, or small temple replicas. The slow-paced village vibe of Hampi makes the morning peaceful and refreshing.

If time permits, you can revisit any missed monument or take a short coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River for a unique local experience. The simplicity of village life combined with grand historical ruins makes Hampi truly special.

Later, check out from the hotel and begin your return journey towards Pune. As the bus rolls out of Hampi, you carry with you memories of majestic temples, stunning carvings, dramatic landscapes, and stories of powerful empires.

The journey back gives everyone time to relax, share photos, and relive the best moments of the trip. Conversations about favorite spots — whether it was the Stone Chariot, Badami caves, or Pattadakal temples — fill the air.

Overnight travel towards Pune.

Arrival in Pune the next morning marks the end of a wonderful 5-day heritage experience. Though the journey ends, the memories of Hampi & Badami Classic stay with you forever — a perfect blend of history, culture, architecture, and scenic beauty.
