How to Reach Lakshadweep

Formerly known as Laccadive, located in the Lakshadweep Sea, on the southwestern coast of India. Renowned for its pristine beaches, plentiful greenery, peaceful atmosphere, and exciting water sports, Lakshadweep is a cluster of three dozen islands and one of the smallest union territories in India. 

The 36 islands sprawling over 32 sq km (approx.), but tourists are allowed to visit only Minicoy, Agati, Thinnakara, Kavaratti, Bangaram, Kadmat, and Kalpeni on their visit. A permit is required for Indian and foreign tourists to bask themselves in the colorful coals, virgin beaches. A permit could be obtained at Kochi airport. With the permit in hand, Indians can visit all the inhabited islands in Lakshadweep. However, foreigners are allowed to visit Kadmat, Bangaram, and Agatti Islands. 

The Government of India is working on Lakshadweep tourism to flourish like every other beach destination in India. But don?t let its remote location deter a visit to sand-national beaches, and glimmering blue waters. The majority of tourists visit Lakshadweep by air connectivity, but it is also possible to travel to Lakshadweep by ship. Lakshadweep Island is accessible both by air and sea. Lakshadweep by Air:

The only airport in Lakshadweep is the Agatti Airport, which is located on Agatti Island. To reach Lakshadweep by air, one has to board a flight to Cochin International Airport, which is the gateway to the Island. Cochin International Airport is well connected with all major states of India and the rest of the world. It takes around one hour and thirty minutes to reach Agatti from Cochin. The average distance between both of these airports is 466 km (approx.) These flights are operational six days a week. After reaching Agatti, one can take the helicopter facility to Kavaratti, which is accessible throughout the year. Another mode of transport to reach Kavaratti from Agatti is via ferry. The distance between Agatti airport to Lakshadweep is 85 km (approx.).

Lakshadweep by Ship:

The ship is another mode of transport to reach Lakshadweep. Traveling via ship is an amazing experience, especially for adventure enthusiasts. A ship cruise ride to Lakshawdeep will allow tourists to bask in the serenity of the Arabian Sea. According to the official website of Lakshadweep, there are seven ships currently offering their services. MV Amindivi, MV Arabian Sea, MV Bharat Seema, MV Dweep Setu, MV Kavaratti, MV Lakshadweep Sea, and MV Minicoy are available from Cochin and vice versa. The travel time to reach Lakshadweep to Cochin is estimated to be 15-20 hours (approx.), and most of the cruises operate for an overnight journey.

The best thing about traveling via ship is that one can get plenty of options to experience. One can prefer their accommodation from A/C Deluxe Class with two-berth cabins, A/C First Class with four-berth cabins, and Tourist Class with A/C seating, suiting their budget and specifications. Apart from that, these ships offer a homely ambiance to their guests. Facilities such as the cafeteria, entertainment lounge, along with medical assistance are also provided to the guest in case of emergency. Guests can also enjoy during the tour by watching videos on the upper deck promenade. 
 

Tips: Monsoon months (June-August) is the time when passenger ships don?t operate.
